OTHER
PROJECT BENEFITS

In
March 1998 persons from the Trelawny Outreach Program
visited Falmouth. The members of the group are Rotarians
from Michigan and work here through local Rotary Clubs.
They have been coming to Trelawny for the past ten years.
Originally the group consisted of doctors providing free
medical treatment for persons in the community. They have
now expanded the group to include persons of all skills
and training. They have offered to assist us with restoration
efforts in Falmouth and we look forward to cooperating
with them.
One
of the members of the Trelawny Outreach Program, Mrs.
Moss, who is the wife of a psychologist in the group,
told me that while she was walking in Falmouth alone,
several young school children started talking with her.
The children took her on a walk through the historic district
and pointed out the newly restored small houses. Mrs.
Moss said that it was evident that the young children
were very proud of what was occurring in Falmouth even
though they did not live in the houses being restored.
This is something we had hoped for and we are extremely
excited that the project is making a positive difference
in the lives of young persons in the town.
It
has also been noticed that persons living in some of the
restored houses are planting flower gardens around their
houses and some families have painted inside. Additionally,
streets in front of the restored houses are swept more
often by the residence than had been the case before the
restoration. All of this is greatly improving the living
environment in Falmouth and instilling a sense of pride
in the community.
