GOVERNMENT
ASSISTANCE & PARTICIPATION

We
obtained the following assistance from government agencies.
As
mentioned above, the HEART Trust provided J$300,000.00
in labour in the form of VTC HEART carpenters/teachers
and trainees to help us with the restoration of three
houses.
SDC
worked with us to obtain materials at a discount which
saved the project J$78,850.00. SDC also provided Youth
Service Volunteers that enhanced the training component
of the project and provided valuable assistance.
Town
Planning, through then M.P. Desmond Leakey, produced a
Town Plan of Greater Falmouth.
TPDCO
and OPM Tourism were instrumental in obtaining funds from
OAS to conduct the Pre Feasibility study and the OAS-Funded
craft-training programme.
Jackie
de Costa, OPM, acted as an
advisor and visited Falmouth
many times
to offer encouragement and support.
Through a grant from the Dorothy-Ann Foundation, US/ICOMOS initiated a new internship exchange in the Caribbean.
In Fall 2005, two U.S. interns spent 8 weeks working with Falmouth Heritage Renewal.
In Spring 2006, two Jamaica interns from Falmouth will spend 8 weeks working with the Jekyll Island Museum in Georgia.
