Blog Jamaica Connecting Us Everywhere
Panmedia this month launches Blog Jamaica, a planet that puts visitors in touch with the wide variety of Blogs by and for Jamaicans. The planet's slogan is: "Connecting Us Everywhere". In the main section, the homepage features snippets of Blogs that have been recently updated, and lets the visitor click for more.
Blog Jamaica's homepage also breaks down the content into categories for visitors with special interests. These include: Professional advice; Arts & Entertainment; Personal & Motivational; Political Commentary; Sports; Community; and Exports & Imports. With hundreds of entries, the visitor can find specific topics by using the search feature. And the range of subjects is vast, with blogs on Barack Obama, Buju Banton, obeah, sex tourism, Mumbai, reproduction rights and China's role in the world, among others.
The site also has a section titled blogFeature that will highlight specific blogs each week. The current featured blog is Marguerite Orane's Free And Laughing All The Time.
Finally, there are sections on blog news, FAQs and an About Us page that tells us that Blog Jamaica is the reservoir of our oral history.
The blogNews section includes tidbits on a blogger first aid kit, blog branding and an article by Jonathan Bailey on copyright issues titled: Comments, Copyright and Confusion.
"Bloggers give it to you straight, no detours and no roadblocks", says Panmedia's CEO Knolly Moses. "On Blog Jamaica they also give it to you in more than one language English and patois!"
Blog Jamaica was first designed three years ago when Moses says he became fascinated with this easy ability to offer ones opinion to the world. "Development work was slow because each time we paused and returned to it new ideas would displace the original ones", he says.
Over time, designers Cyzon Robinson and Joanne Bell and web developers Marlon Maulsby, Ranon Martin and Daemone Brown were all involved in the planet's development. Panmedia's Tech Lead Nesta Campbell supervised its technical aspects.
