What’s the value of Twitter to a business these days?
Still wondering how to use Twitter to bring value to your business? Well, Venture capitalist Fred Wilson, an investor in Twitter, says he has at least part of the answer. Wilson says it’s all in the power of what he calls passed links.
Essentially, Wilson believes twitter equals traffic, because tweets usually have links in them that are typically minimized by using sites like bit.ly and tinyurl. Since the person sending you the link is likely a trusted source – an assumption we make if you are following them – users are more likely to click.
Many companies worldwide are seeing a growth in the source of traffic coming from social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
Getting a great user experience from Kingston On The Edge
Kingston On The Edge brings a vibrant energy to the city’s art and music this week as it has done in the past two years. The brand is bigger now, and seems set to become a permanent fixture in the life of Kingston.
This week a packed schedule of entertainment and art showings will keep the young and the hip busy as venues all over town get involved (See Schedule on this page). There is Dance on the Edge at Philip Sherlock Centre, Gallery Hop at Revolution, Bolivar and Mutual galleries.
There is a film night at Red Bones a second Red Rubberband Mural project and an artist open house in Stony Hill.
To share or not to share
Peter Bunting, General Secretary of the People's National Party, unknowingly at the time, stepped into a fire when he shared comments on his facebook profile quoting Albert Einstein’s “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results" and Martin Luther King’s “A genuine leader doesn't reflect consensus, he molds consensus.”
How New Media Broke Bunting's Big Story
It is a sure sign that old media isn’t breaking the news anymore, and a coup for Facebook in Jamaica. Peter Bunting’s simple share could cost him his PNP job, a clear indication of the power of social media, of which Facebook is the largest.
The story is a perfect example of how this now ubiquitous aspect of the Internet works. The action is with the audience. It was people’s response to Bunting’s posting that brought both the old media scrambling late to the story and the PNP’s wrath.
Blog Jamaica ranks high on Twitter
Blogjamaica is now #4 on Twitter in Jamaica, according to the tracking tool twitterholic.com which tracks followers on the leading social media.
Blog Jamaica is a collection of blogs from around the world with Jamaican content. Anyone can submit their blog to be added to this website via the contact form. Our analytics show that Twitter represents 22 % of visitors to the planet (an aggregator for blogs).
Panmedia put Blog Jamaica on Twitter three weeks ago to market the site to users interested in a wide range of voices on Jamaica. Each time a new blog post appears on the site, a link is then posted on Twitter, which followers can click to get directly to the article.
Efficiencies come long before the website is finished
We often encounter clients whose business culture is meeting-prone. They summon a meeting at the slightest provocation. Not trusting new communication tools like email or old ones like the phone, they want face time to convey something that sometimes doesn’t exceed a sentence.
For such people and for efficiencies in jobs with myriad elements and some complexity, Panmedia uses project sites. These are valuable tools for organizing jobs, assigning responsibilities,, making lists and checking off tasks. They centralize communications for the client and agency side.
After our first discovery meeting with clients we send them a URL with a user name and password for access. All actionable items are then posted on the project site and emails automatically alert those involved.
Capital & Credit Financial Group consolidates online presence
We recently engaged Capital & Credit in a dialogue about enhancing their suite of corporate sites. Our initiative could not have been timelier, since they were already underway with a re-purposing of their online presence.
The Capital & Credit Financial Group is a diversified financial entity that provides a broad spectrum of financial products and services (banking, asset management, securities trading, stock broking, among others). CCFG consists of several subsidiaries and associate companies, each with their own website.
The existing sites are difficult to maintain because they do not employ a content management system, and each site exists independently of the other. CCFG also wants to consolidate user experience across all their sites, maintaining a consistent look and feel.
And We Thought Newspapers Were Dying
We went to the re-launch of the Sunday Herald and found much goodwill and support there for a newspaper that has had its ups and downs. The programme was simple and straightforward, with kind words coming from the Press Association of Jamaica and the Advertising Agencies Association of Jamaica.
The PAJ believes the Herald’s place in Jamaica’s media is secure, and wished the weekly “many more column inches, editions and publications.”
President JJ Foote of the AAAJ offered high praises in his remarks.
Business Events Jamaica makes a Splash
We have long looked closely at Google analytics, both for our clients and for four Panmedia websites. The data offers great insight and helps to guide many decisions about content and promotions. So we were pleasantly surprised recently when we noticed one of our popular sites, Business Events Jamaica, was getting a large amount of referrals from Splash Jamaica. In some weeks the referrals almost matched the visitors coming from the search engines.
Splash Jamaica is a recruitment website for employers and those seeking job opportunities. Job seekers can upload their resumes, and search and apply for jobs online.
Sharing HIV/STI information online
The Jamaica National HIV/STI Control Programme has awarded Panmedia a contract to modernize and fix certain issues with its current website.
The JN Control Programme is aimed at preventing and controlling HIV.AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections.
That site was functioning without a content management system and made timely updating difficult. It also needed a look and feel closer to current design styles.
