Facebook continues to impress users and observers as it sets trends that keep pulling more and more people to its social networking website. It was the first to introduce instant messaging on a social network and now Facebook has teamed up with Skype to introduce video calling that allows users to make video calls directly from their friend’s profile. Facebook friends can initiate video calls with just a few clicks. When users browse a friend’s profile, they will see a new button nestled between the ‘Message’ and ‘Poke’ buttons that says ‘Call’. When this button is clicked, the other user will see a popup asking if they want to accept a call, and friends will be immediately connected. Users will need to install a small plugin the first time the service is used. The partnership could substantially increase Skype usage. Facebook has more than 750 million active users. Currently Skype has just 170 million. And with voice and video chat as an option to communicate, Facebook will become even stickier for users. The new chat product is an exciting one for all Facebook users and will bring people closer by making communication easier and more powerful. The fact that this isn’t the main project that the Facebook team is working on shows that there are much more exciting and fun stuff to come from the leading social channel.
