The new Amazon Kindle Fire has recorded more than 250,000 pre-orders since it was announce last week. This means that an average 50,000 tablets are ordered each day. At this rate Amazon could sell more than 2.5 million Kindle Fires by the time the tablet is launched. In comparing sales figures, we can clearly see the Amazon Kindle Fire taking a clear lead as Apple sold only 300,000 iPads, including deliveries of pre-orders, on its first day of sales in the U.S. RIM reportedly shipped 490,000 Playbooks in its first quarter and a Motorola executive has called the new Xoom tablet’s sales numbers “underwhelming.” It’s a flawed comparison, of course, because the Kindle Fire has no camera, microphone or 3G capabilities. It runs Android, but its bookshelf-like interface departs drastically from other tablets. In addition, the Kindle Fire is sold for $199, $300 cheaper than the cheapest iPad 2 but with all the necessary features that will be used on daily by users. The Amazon Kindle Fire has a simple but slick design with a 7-inch screen that fits perfectly and safely in the average users hand. It does not have as many selling points as the iPad but it is certainly a worthy competitor.
