Flow Logo[Flow Broadband Network](http://www.flowjamaica.com/index.htm "Flow Broadband Network") jumped into the telecommunications market this week with a high profile launch that signals things to come. They will be offering affordable cable, voice and broadband services. It will be interesting to watch since they're going head to head with [Cable & Wireless](http://www.cwjamaica.com "Cable & Wireless") who is also their largest customer.

Inexpensive broadband is likely to bring more Jamaicans to the web and integrate it into their lives. One outcome is that more time on the web will influence the types of Jamaican sites we expect to see. Say goodbye to the sites of yesteryear (circa 1998) that limited bandwidth forced on the market.

As web developers we appreciate the freedom greater access to broadband will bring. Now it will be easier to convince clients to let us design more [interactive sites](http://www.flickr.com "Flickr") with the kind of [rich interface](http://www.youtube.com "Youtube") that will keep visitors coming back.

Smart companies will no longer see their sites simply as online brochures but an extension of the services they offer. They may even be encouraged to bring more services online.

Of course, this won't happen overnight. But competitive prices for broadband alone will change the landscape. How Flow incorporates all the services they are offering is anyone's guess.
