A Panmedia salute goes out to the **Bioethics Society of the English-Speaking Caribbean**. The group plans to address controversial issues around bioethics such as genetic engineering, medical malpractice, mercy killing and ganja smoking.

**Dr. Derrick Aarons**, the first bioethics doctorate in the region will head the BSEC team. The BSEC was launched during the second Research Ethics Conference at the [University of the West Indies](http://www.mona.uwi.edu/proffice/uwinotebook2.asp?autonumber=1365 "UWI Notebook"). The Society is primarily for those who are involved in the discussion, teaching, research, or clinical aspects of bioethics in the English-speaking Caribbean.

Panmedia salutes this noble initiative and commends BSEC for expanding the intellectual debate in health, medicine and biology. We wish them well and hope the work they do will bring rigor to the research and writing about bioethics in this part of the world.
