Solar ManSolar Man, the mascot that Panmedia designed for the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica, is featured this week in the Gleaner, both in the newspaper and its online version.

Energy reporter Ross Sheil described the mascot and interviewed and industry sources. He also mentioned the PCJ seminar this week where United States-based expert Steven Strong of Solar Design Associates is guest speaker. Strong will offer ways to implement solar power in cost-effective and environmentally friendly ways. Solar Man is being launched this week at the seminar.

In his story, Sheil says that Solar Man will encourage young people to adapt solar technology in an effort to tackle Jamaica's spiraling energy import bill, expected to reach US$1.5 billion this year.

He also pointed out that solar water heaters are GCT and import duty exempt, and that the National Housing Trust offers loans to householders of up to $100,000.
